The CAACTUS_effect is a personal growth concept which is inspired by the cactus plant itself. Not only does the cactus have an astonishing outer appearance - its development throughout hundreds of years is one of a kind. And by understanding its advanced progress, we might be able to reflect our own adaptive responsiveness. This navigation point will lead you to all background information concerning the CAACTUS´ origin as well as its theory regarding the blog’s content.
performer of nature
The so-called „performer of nature“ has undertaken a complex upgrowth by understanding the dynamic, vivid and hence changeable environment it lives in. One could say it has started an inventory whereby it observed a massive amount of impacts that could possibly destroy or actually enhance its being. As a result the cactus has activated an adaptive capability which consequently led to a benefit of its own mechanism to transform and thereby obtain its own species.
The cactus originally descents from northern parts of South America. Since thousands of years it has been exposed to nature, specifically climate changes. Due to its persistence it is shown that the cactus offers a large spectrum of appearances. Once it has started plant-like carrying leaves for photosynthesis. However when temperatures increased practicing photosynthesis to that extend during daytimes was no longer needed. In fact it was rather harmful to the species because of excessive evaporation that caused dehydration.
Therefore the cactus has developed an extraordinary and unique metabolism (Crassulacean Acid Metabolism). By making use of a certain enzyme during the humid night periods the cactus collects carbon dioxide and temporarily stores it as malic acid. During daytimes the malic acid is being subdivided and carried to the cells as carbon dioxide where photosynthesis then takes place. Hence the cactus collects all substances it needs over night and activates when being exposed to solar radiation while maintaining a totally balanced presence. This technique requires a higher energy level but at the same time saves up to 90% of water consumption which makes existence possible.
A change in weather conditions forced the cactus to reconsider its overall body structure as well. Over the years it has developed an energy-comfortable-mode that takes all possible circumstances into account, such as water storage when clearly no water is around, e.g. the dessert. With absolutely no leaves the cactus is able to practice photosynthesis in the stem where all the water is being stored. What is more certain cactuses have completely modified their exterior. Henceforth the cactus is in need of a more bulky shape which is rich in surface. The more surface it provides the more water the stem is able to store. Meanwhile the cactus is not in distress of drying out. Furthermore a wax layer that covers the entire facings also protects from dehydrating.
Another feature cactuses have developed are spines. Those help to defend itself while living in very hot areas barely experiencing rainy days. Being aware of their water storage, cactuses represent a desired dish for all kinds of large animals surrounding them, such as antelopes. In contrast certain cactuses bloom brightly colored flowers in order to attract insects for seed population.
The cactus is capable of reflecting its environment, so that in case of a natural variation it is able to adjust. This ability shows that it possesses a high potential of resilience and flexibility that allows the cactus continuous existence. Further more its adaptive responsiveness illustrates not only an elaborate scheme, but even more an integration of natural effectiveness on its presence. Therefore the cactus created a deep understanding of how nature and natural subcomponents, just like plants, mutually define each other. Transformation is their skill of development. In sum the cactus effect empowers the cactus to be existent whereas in original conditions presence is impossible.
The discussion regarding the cactus´ characteristics and its transformation have initiated further examinations, especially in terms of human behavior and their coping strategies concerning external influences. In modern societies, usually encapsulated from natural conditions, unlike the cactus´ transformation shows, the impact of distress represents a deeper meaning. Tension and pressure seem to sneak in everyday life settings, not even bothering that it has a destructive influence on our mental and physical condition. The western lifestyle requires a more individual and proactive type of game plan. Due to a lack of personal resource development and support though, personal growth seems to become more and more complex and tedious. In particular, personal growth is not only a wish, it is becoming a social demand!
As observations regarding the original cactus effect state, successful transformation is only possible when given perceptive and adaptive responsiveness. The following concept is based on essential parts of the cactus´ development capacities, especially regarding aspects of personal growth. The most important attitude that we need to cultivate is the realization of agreement and acceptance. We do not have to despise or exclude thoughts and actions we have created. If anything, we need to get in touch with our individual comprehension of what we are surrounded by, the decisions that lead us and the approach we establish and put into practice. What I see in excessive demands and distress is the chance to realize personal awareness and individual evolvement. Two elements that I consider a necessity regarding personal transformation.
The development of the cactus´ natural habitat and its proactive response have inspired the following concept that not only is an homage to the actual plant transformation but as well shares the same name: The CAACTUS_effect.
CAACTUS_effect is covered in a one-year blog project and is structured in three main, consecutive categories, an intro and an outro. It starts with the process of creating awareness, followed by the acceptance of challenges, and ends with the transformation by using stress. All three main categories are divided in each four subcategories, simultaneously characterizing stages of personal development. Consequently the process operates by the following structures:
CA | AC | TUS
C = Create | A = Awareness [CA]
A = Accept | C = Challenge [AC]
T = Transform | U = Using | S = Stress [TUS]
(in total 2 weeks)
Recap | Project presentation
1. CREATE AWARENESS
(in total 16 weeks)
Question | Struggle | Motivate | Identify
2. ACCEPT CHALLENGE
(in total 16 weeks)
Struggle | Realize opportunities |
Motivate | Embrace challenge
3. TRANSFORM USING STRESS
(in total 16 weeks)
Know your obstacles | Motivate |
Create positive mental attitude |
Remain focused and persistent
(in total 3 weeks)
Reflection | Gratitude | Wishes
This project´s goal is to make personal growth a subject of discussion. What is most important is to manage and establish an understanding regarding self-awareness, motivate to embrace the act of growth as a challenge, and finally committing to a transformation that can only be done by making effective use of stress. CAACTUS_effect forms a well structured base as its perspective of progress indicates a consecutive setting. Therefore it enables a coordinated approach that leads step by step to a transformation level. What you are going to discover is a one-year blog project consisting of three main categories as well as an intro and outro phase. CAACTUS_effect is covered in regularly published blog articles that will give you the possibility of rethinking set structures, developing adaptive responsiveness by knowing and understanding natural causes, and activating personal commitment by establishing and pushing positive mental settings.
